Guests

Friends and family are welcome to attend the in-person commencement ceremony and a lunchtime reception that follows. We ask graduates to please limit the number of guests to 5. Note: There is no additional fee for guests.

Caps and Gowns

We have a selection of gowns that were custom made in women’s cooperatives in Asia, Africa, and Central America.

Please indicate your interest in a gown from (left to right) El Salvador (trim in various colors), Thailand, or Ghana.

In-person participants have the choice of a custom commencement gown, which must be returned to us, or a black gown that the graduate may keep.

Regardless of which gown you choose, you will receive and may keep a hood and cap.

Rehearsal

A brief, informal rehearsal for graduates participating in person will take place at 4:30 p.m. (Eastern U.S.) on Friday, Aug. 12, at the International Center on the SIT campus in Brattleboro. At the rehearsal, you will learn important logistical information that will make the commencement ceremony run smoothly.

Commencement Speaker

SIT is pleased to welcome Peace Corps CEO Carol Spahn as this year’s commencement keynote speaker. Her presence honors the shared history of the two organizations.

Post-Commencement Peace Corps Ceremony

This year, SIT and World Learning are celebrating the 90th anniversary of our founding. Both grew out of the Experiment in International Living, an intercultural exchange program launched in 1932. The Experiment became one of the first institutions to train outbound Peace Corps volunteers in the early 1960s. In 1964, that training center became School for International Training. On Saturday, Aug. 13, our organizations will celebrate our shared values and ongoing partnership with the dedication of a new historical marker on campus. You are welcome to attend this dedication, which takes place after commencement at 2 p.m. Please click here to RSVP for this historic dedication.
