Joyce E. Howland

Joyce started working at SIT Graduate Institute in 2012. She served as student services coordinator, executive assistant to the dean, writing coach, practicum placement specialist, program administrator, and DC student services coordinator before returning to the position of student services coordinator in June 2019. She is responsible for local arrangements for SIT Graduate Institute students in DC and handles visa paperwork and counseling for all non-US resident SIT Graduate Institute students and faculty and for World Learning exchange participants coming to the US for various programs. Joyce earned her bachelor’s degree in economics at Wellesley College and her PhD in economics with fields in economic development and international trade at Vanderbilt University. She enjoys baking, reading, traveling both in the US and abroad, and learning about diverse cultures. In addition, she is a volunteer usher for the Arena Stage and the Folger Shakespeare Library and helps serve a hot breakfast for the less fortunate on Fridays at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, a historic parish near her home in DC.
