Preparing for your Program

All SIT programs around the world share the same tenets and philosophy — social justice for all, cross-cultural understanding, shared experience, and reciprocity — distilled through deep personal and professional reflection.

The rigorous academic study you will receive through lectures, course materials, discussions, simulations, case studies, and other exercises provides a framework that enhances the education you create for yourself through direct, active, close engagement with your classmates and your surroundings outside the classroom.

The following characteristics will be key to your success:

  • Active engagement with others through open-mindedness, inquisitiveness, solidarity, flexibility, and acceptance of differences
  • A willingness to uncover, examine and critically evaluate your long-held beliefs
  • Respect for other cultures and the perspectives of other group members.

By practicing respect, tact, and sensitivity with members of your group, you will discover cultures very different from yours and recognize universal commonalities. Previous SIT graduates have described how quickly they drew strength and enrichment from their differences, unique backgrounds, and common values.

Your cohort will become successful as a “learning community” by establishing positive, respectful relationships and supporting each other from the very start of the program. The bonds you form — and the challenges you face and overcome—will likely lead to lifelong friendships. We hope this is your experience. It will take hard work — and a lot of laughter—but the returns can be immeasurable.

Registering for Classes

Dear Student,

Congratulations on your acceptance to the School for International Training (SIT) Graduate Institute!  As Registrar, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our community.

The registrar’s office staff are happy to support you in your academic career with all that concerns course registration, enrollment certification, veterans’ benefits, grades, academic policy, degree audits, transcripts, application to graduate, and issuance of diplomas.

Approximately two to three weeks prior to the beginning of your first term of enrollment, I will send more detailed information to you via your SIT email address about when and in which courses you should register, rather than overwhelm you with information now.  In the meantime, I invite you to familiarize yourself with Colleague Self-Service, the online interface with Colleague, our Student Information System, which you will use to register for classes, consult your course schedule, final grades, tuition bill and financial aid, and progress toward graduation.

Should you have any questions, please never hesitate to contact us.  We are happy to help!
